Constructive dialogue needed to end current deadlock: John Kerry

Dhaka: John Kerry, the US Secretary of State, has sent separate letters to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Khaleda Zia urging them to hold a constructive dialogue to end the current deadlock over the poll-time administration.

Both the letters were received here on Sunday.

BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury said US ambassador Dan Mozena delivered the letter to the BNP chief’s Gulshan office on Sunday.

The ambassador has also been to the Prime Minister’s Office, but ruling Awami League is yet to confirm receipt.

Kerry said in his letters, “The USA along with international community is concerned about the political situation in Bangladesh".

The US envoy also emphasized that the outcome of the dialogue should be acceptable to all for the sake of holding a free and fair polls.

He also said the UN wanted to see a free, fair and credible election participated by all the parties and that it was closely monitoring the political situation in Bangladesh.
